Popular Post Llama
Most of you know I am building one of these things.. So, I figure it's best to put the pics on one place. Since I started playing again, I decided to resurrect this thing. It is not so loosely based on a Ritter Roya, and the wood is cherry. Pickup layout: Rough routed. Pots located, holes drilled: More freaking layout: I made some templates for this. And the first mistake should be obvious. It's an easy fix, so not worried about it: A la Ritter. I will be making a wooden cavity cover for this: Mistake!!! Due to my desire to sculpt the sides more than Ritter does, this is what happened. Little blow out. I have a fix in mind, again not worried about it.
Gary
Cool Mel! Looking forward to this. I love Ritter's stuff and admire the fact that his instruments are true art pieces.
Woodenskye
Mel, did you just start this project or was it something you put on hold? Either way, it looks like you are off to a great start. I really like the bodies shape.
Tom Cancelleri
One thing I never really understood when it came to basses like that is the top horn. The grain direction leaves it more susceptible to breaking, especially with the addition of a strap mounting there. My thoughts would be to drill a 3/8" hole down the horn towards the body (in the center of course), some glue and a cherry dowel, and then cover the dowel the the strap button. I shaped the body several years ago, and it just sat on the shelf. 8 minutes ago, Tom Cancelleri said: top horn Haven't seen any break at that point unless they really get banged. The wood is right around 1.75" (44.45mm for the Canadian), so I'm really not concerned with that being an issue. 3 hours ago, Gary said: Looking forward to this. thanks Me too lol... It's been a long time in the making!

If you're not breaking the top horn, you're not rocking hard enough!

While the second mistake is glaringly obvious, and it will be interesting to see the fix you have in mind, I don't see the first mistake. Of course I don't know what you should be doing so it's difficult to know when you do something "off". Do tell...

Due to the layout of the control cavity, I had to route into where one of the pickups mount. I'll have to add a piece of wood there for the screw to attach. davewyo
Oh! I see! That little round spot you marked out during the "more freakin' layout" part.
