Guest
Howdy. Planning on building a cypress patio table and putting it in a shady location. Looking for the least maintenance possible and don't care if it weathers. My concern is controlling mildew on the wood. Looking for ideas on how to manage this? Thanks for nay suggestions. Guest
I like penofin marine oil. It has a mildewcide built in but will need to be reapplied annually. You really have 3 choices: 1) A UV and mildew preventing oil, like Penofin, reapplied annually 2) A film building stain like Sikkens CETOL. People report a 5+ yesr life out if it, at which point it can be pressured washed off and reapplied. 3) A heavy duty marine varnish like Epifanes. Its a lot of upfront work (like 10 coats) and needs to be re-topcoated every few years (kind of a PITA) but will basically last forever if you do that. of course you can do nothing and live with grey and wash off the mildew every few months.
