Popular Post Mpride1911
Coming back from the dump Saturday morning and drove past a garage sale, so I stopped. He had a good selection of antiques there, like he'd had a store at one point, a lot had price tags on it, some things being in fairly good condition, but others were just junk tools. He had a few wooden planes, and he had this joiner for $55. The wood had some light cracks, and there was a small chunk missing from the toe, but the iron was intact. I offered $20, and he agreed. I took it home and immediately started filling the cracks with CA, and planing the sole. I patched the missing chunk with a piece of maple, and after it was done, I applied BLO and waxed the sole. The iron and chip breaker were immaculate, and sharpened easily. The maker was Ibbotson Peace & Co, which were apparently around from the mid 1840s to the 1860s. I'm pretty happy with the finished product.

Once I started planing away the corner, I started to get a little nervous when I saw how much had to come off, to make a smooth surface. 8 hours ago, pkinneb said: Nice that is one big plane Yeah, I didn't realize just how big, until I put it next to the low angle jack plane in the picture. TerryMcK
$55 was too expensive but $20 was much more in the ball park. Good find and good repair.
