Jim Harvey
I came up with an easy way to sharpen a router plane cutter. Pictures at https://wb8nbs.wordpress.com/2016/08/08/how-to-sharpen-a-router-plane-blade/
Immortan D
Interesting method. I use a chisel holder and a small jig (two blocks of wood), it works pretty fine:
h3nry
I just rest the end on the bench, and the bevel on my stone ... and that's my bevel angle. Not very scientific. I suppose I could make the correct height shims to get an exact angle if I wanted.
James Wright
I just hold it and slide it on the stone. it is so small there is little or no issue with keeping the bevel. but I much prefer to freehand tools whenever possible.
gee-dub
As I get older holding small items with good control has become more difficult and sometimes even painful (arthritis). Both Jim and Immortan D's methods would help with that for others suffering the same fate. My router plane is a Veritas so some of my cutters come off for sharpening and have the "holder" for them. This makes things orient so that my grip is OK. For the one-piece I will try some of the other ideas presented. I and my hands thank you all. derekcohen
Your comment is awaiting moderation. That looks like hard work. Have a look at my website for a system I developed that will produce sharp edges quickly and easily. The basis of this is a hollow grind on the blade – yes, a router plane blade – and my article shows you how to achieve this … http://www.inthewoodshop.com/WoodworkTechniques/SharpeningRouterPlaneBlades.html Regards from Perth Derek
