Popular Post gee-dub
A recent thread on a sweet little waste bin made me think about a similar item I made for my mother once upon a time. It is scaled for a grocery bag and mom used it next to her desk to collect paper waste that eventually found its way to the recycle center. It is modeled after an umbrella stand and I used floating tenons for this white oak piece. The panels float in long mortise slots in the upper and lower rails I just round the ends of the panels and give them a shoulder. And they assemble like so. I gave the legs a detail from the Greene and Greene 'Blacker House' chairs. I add a bit of personality with some detail on the back center slat. You can see the grocery bag used to scale the piece. Mom loved her hummingbirds that came to visit in the backyard every morning (and still do) so I gave her one on this. I had fun making something we often take for granted a little more interesting.
Eric.
Very cool piece, gd. I think the leg indent works great on it...one of my favorite G&G details. Also think the white oak was a good choice for this mission-y looking piece.

How do you make legs look like that? Its a router jig that holds the leg at a slight angle. I think I picked this up from Darrell Peart's book. Let me check . . . yes, its shown in his first book. Here's mine (I'm using spacers on these narrow legs as the jig was built for something else): You finish up with some hand sanding to get the final profile.
Guest
Damn Gee, stand up because you are the real slim shady. Nice work!
wnaziri
That is a really elegant design. I have noticed that your work is very tidy and efficient. I am impressed. G&G is starting starting to grow on me; I feel like I should take on a G&G project one of these days.
