ChrisG-Canada
Tomorrow I'm heading off for a week in Gatlinburg, TN. Any woodworking sights/stores in that area I shouldn't miss?
wtnhighlander
There are a couple of Northern Tool / Harbor Freight type stores in Sieviervilke & Pigeon Forge, if that floats your boat. At least one carries ShopFox machines. Smokey Mountain Knife Works is cool, but not really geared to woodworking tools. There used to be a nice carver's supply store / workshop over in Townsend ( South of Gatlinburg ), but I haven't been there in a few years, might not be open now. prov163
Lonnie Bird's school is in Dandridge, not far from you. There's a Rockler in Knoxville. The Knife Works is cool, as highlander said.
Mick S
About an hour away in Asheville, NC in Asheville Hardware. Lots of great slabs and unusual woods.
JosephThomas
What's the occasion? I have wanted to visit a couple little towns in that area but haven't made it yet... Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Eric.
Don't waste your time in Gatlinburg. Take a stroll through the Smokey Mountains instead. Gatlinburg is, while charming, a touristy pile of crap. Like if Dolly Parton had a baby with Shoji Tabuchi.
Gnarlywoodguy
Jeffries Wood Works in Seymour. Our local purveyor of hardwoods, blanks and exotics. Bob and Cynthia are the owners. Good folk. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk There isn't a Rockler in Knoxville. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Rex Edgar
Years ago there was a vertical wind tunnel in Pigeon Forge. Was worth the visit. Geronimo!
prov163
Gnarlywoodguy, is the Woodwork Shop in Bartlett still up and running? I think they are a Rockler partner rather than corporate store. I agree with Eric, spend you time in Cade's Cove, ride over to Asheville, etc. Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg are very touristy. I used to spend a lot of time on the Ocoee but it's infested with rafters/tubers now days.
