Painting over Danish oil

Hi Guys

I've been working on an outside table.

I've finished the legs (Pine) using Danish oil but the wife isn't a fan and has decided that painting the legs with a Gloss Dark oak would be nicer.

I've done a bit of research and the best I can see I can find is that I should do the following:

  • Rub down with white spirit
  • Sand lightly (220 grit)

Do you think that would work?

Thanks for any advice! :)

Thanks for the reply guys.

I'm was thinking of using the gloss paint below:

I think I might just give it a god with the rubbing down and mineral spirit. I'll let you guys know how I get on! might be one of those that I don't know the error of my ways till a year down the road!

Again thanks for the reply guys!

Hi Paddy welcome to the forum. As the guys eluded to coating with shellac first of all will be a good option. In the UK a good premixed shellac is Liberon sanding sealer. One or two coats of this before putting the Ronseal on top would be a good option. You might need more than one coat of Ronseal BTW (read the can).
