adel
Hi everyone, Could really use some help. I am building a front entrance gate and a garage door that I want to have a finished Ebony look. Here is my question: 1) I read best way to stain it t first dye it with India Ink ( Solar-Lux Jet Black dye alcohol based) 2) then a black oil stain like Spanish Oak Wiping Stain by Old Masters. 3) Then a clear finish like polyurethane, lacquer. My question is ( I know nothing about wood): Will this work for my outdoors purpose. I am concerned I am going about this the wrong way either by: 1) picking the wrong wood 2) picking the wrong color ( even though it goes best with my house and design) 3) picking the wrong approach with the dye/stain and finish coat as I am putting it outdoors and this approach only works indoors. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
AceHoleInOne
Your overthinking this one. General Finishes has an outdoor product line called 450. Matter of fact they have a color black walnut which appears pretty dark. In addition, they have an outdoor topcoat too.
