treesner
Do you guys have a good technique for drilling tall pieces on the drill press? I tried clamping to my table but it was hard to keep it vertical and then center it and then clamp it down.
wtnhighlander
You could make a vertical clamping block that attaches around the post. Depends on the shape of the object to be drilled, I guess. Can't see your photos at the moment, for some reason.
Coop
I made an L shaped brace from 2x's and clamped in similiar fashion as you've done, to the drill press. Then clamped my piece to the inside of the brace, taking care to plumb it to your drill bit, and it gave it more substance to clamp to. AJ_Engineer
Does your table rotate 90 degrees? It looks like yours does (round barrel and angle gauge). Clamp the piece flat on the table and rotate the table.
Ronn W
I agree with AJ. Rotate the table. You can still let your work piece bear on the table. You can even draw a line on the rotated table or clamp a guide to the rotated table to help you align the piece vertically.
wdwerker
That drill press looks familiar. There may be a pin that keeps the table flat even when the locking nut is loosened. Use a drift punch to tap the pin out and the table should rotate freely.
