Schyler
Hey everyone! I'm having a rough time trying to find anywhere to buy Paulownia stock. I've read the Paulownia Barn LLC has since gone out of business and am not finding another decent supplier. Does anyone know where you can still order it and have it shipped? I'm in the Midwest. Any help would be appreciated! -Sky
..Kev
Welcome to the forums Schyler! I'll be the first to admit, I had to look that one up. I'm sure the others will chime in and lend a hand. Just curious what you're building?
Schyler
I've been asked to build a tansu style cabinet and was also wanting to make some boxes for my Japanese planes.

It is a specialty wood with many unique charcuteries. I prefer my prosciutto with fresh mozzarella as a vessel for inserting into my pie hole.
mat60
At one time I was buying unfinished paulownia furniture. Its soft and takes a dark stain well. I found light stains didnt look all that well.
BonPacific
If the links above don't work, you could try contacting these folks http://www.paulowniatrees.org, seems like their Marketing wing might be able to put you in touch with someone who sells it. Seems like a pretty wood, the grain looks partway between white oak and maple.
Schyler
Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I'm going to called the folks in TN tomorrow and find out about pricing and shipping.

Curtis
Paulownia is the favored wood for making wooden hand planes (not the same as our "planes") used for bodysurfing. Basically mini tear drop shapes you strap to a hand to provide a little lift when bodysurfing a wave. Or larger wooden paipos which are like wooden boogie boards with fins. It's apparently a very buoyant wood. I've never had much success finding it. So I have used other woods to make mine.
