Aged wood that was covered up. Any ideas?

I have an old china hutch that I have taken apart and plan on converting the bottom half of to a TV stand.  It is from the 50's or 60's and the existing veneered finish on it was called limed oak I think.

The doors had decorative wood carvings attached on the front that I removed, and the wood under the carvings has aged differently. Sanding so far seems to have had little effect. Is there any way that I can  clean or treat this to make the wood match?  Keep sanding? It is a veneer, so I am worried about sanding too much off.

Thanks
