Popular Post wtnhighlander
Just to prove I haven't fallen totally off the woodworking wagon of late, here are a couple of sketchy photos. Sorry about the horrible lighting - junior wanted deep blue walls to make it easier to sleep after the early morning sun started streaming into his bedroom windows. This is what I finally came up with as a use for a cypress knee I was given. The shelf is a 'live edge' piece of ash, ridden with bug tunnels. Coupled with the cypress knee corbels, it has a 'bat cave' sort of feel to it. He thought it looked really cool & creepy. Corbels are slightly recessed into the shelf, and attached with 'round m&t', aka dowels. Keyhole plates flush-mounted in the back for hanging.

Chet
Cool looking project. It looks like it goes well with his choice of wall color.
wdwerker
Suitable for a bat cave ! Are they really orange or is that just the light/photography ?
wtnhighlander
Thanks guys! I have a few more knees that are too 'interesting' to burn, but I haven't come up with any other projects for them, aside from the ubiquitous 'hunting lodge table lamp'. I'm open to ideas. These things seem fairly strong, but are light as styrofoam, and cut about as easily. They may wind up as art projects, more than functional furniture. Chestnut
That's a cool way to use those. That looks really neat. I like the unsymmetrical natural look to it. We never thought you fell off the woodworking wagon, you were just riding the life wagon for a while. It's not a bad trade from time to time.

prov163
Ross, did you save any of that material in case you have to do a knee replacement in the future?

MattF
Looks great. I saw some Cypress knees at the local Woodcraft a few weeks. I should have grabbed a couple.
Keggers
I almost missed this post. Great looking project! Very creative use of the cypress knees.
wtnhighlander
Looks great. I saw some Cypress knees at the local Woodcraft a few weeks. I should have grabbed a couple. Don't bother, unless you already have a planned use for them. They are so irregular, it is quite difficult to work them in to any sort of typical furniture project. These have been sitting in the corner of my garage for at least 3 years. I used one for this shelf, and have 5 left!
