The vertical pieces were just positioned in place then secured with screws. Horizontal shelves are slid into place with dados on the sides and back and secured with glue and screws. All the case work is .500" plywood. Face frame and trim is just cheap knotty 1 X 3 pine. I primed everything with 2 coats of B.I.N Primer in hopes to mitigate the knots bleeding through. It was built in two pieces and assembled in place. Cabinet first, then the bookshelf. They are secure together using screws from inside the cabinet.
