Bspina1
Question...using the subject product and it appears that I get very fine brush marks on select ares of my work piece, not uniformly across the piece. I'm pretty amateur here...any ideas?
Guest
Its a water-based product, which means it is really easy to get brush marks. The #1 thing people do wrong is over brush it. Put it on and leave it alone. Do not work it, trying to make it look better. You want to get a good, wet coat down with as few brush strokes as possible (ideally you put it down with a single brush stroke and don't go back over it at all). The stuff starts to dry the minute you lay it down, so any additional brushing you do can leave a mark. That being said, it is actually very user friendly once you get the hang of it. Put down a good coat, make sure you get full coverage, and don't worry about what it looks like wet. It magically dries to an even coat. Chet
Mike hit it real well. the only thing I can add is shop temperature. I don't know where you are located but with the water bourne finishes if it is to warm it can be drying as you are putting it on. Welcome to the forums. Ronn W
I tend to like sponge applicators for the water base poly that I have used. spread it quickly then a series of parallel long brush strokes and leave it alone.
Chestnut
To the experts above do you sand between each coat on waterborn finishes?

AceHoleInOne
Listen to what Mike said above, it's good advice. Apply the finish, don't over brush it. Let the finish do it's job and flow out smooth. Yes,always give your finishes a light sand with 320 grit (mid coat sanding) or and easy wipe with 320 for the first coat and stay off your edges. Sanding knocks down the highs spots and levels the finish and adds tooth for the next coat to hold onto. Remember, in-order to sand a finish you have to have enough build of finish on the surface to sand. Very important to go easy sanding a first coat really all it is a very light wipe. I like using the foam back 320 paper from Mirka, called gold flex soft. -Ace-
