jwidhalm
Hello, I recently finished building a crosscut sled and with it sitting on my table saw noticed a gap between the sled and the table. Thinking that my sled must have gotten skewed during assembly I chalked it up to novice woodworker's workmanship. I got to thinking that if it was the sled that was out of wack my cuts would certainly be affected. I have tracked every cut for squareness and have not found and that seemed to be off. I took my 4ft level and laid it the front of the table, the back of the table, down each side and the middle and didn't find anything too bad. When I checked the diagonals however I noticed the left rear corner was lower by 0.053". The saw is a Ridgid R4512 that I purchased this last July. Anybody have any suggestions on what can be done about this? Does my method of checking sound reasonable? Thanks, Jim
xxdabroxx
Can you adjust the table height by loosening the bolts and moving it to align with your straight edge?
bleedinblue
I'm not too sure that will be a problem, especially in that corner of the saw. I wouldn't worry about it.
TerryMcK
I think you said you have checked every cut for squareness and didn't find anything off. In that case there is no problem.
drzaius
Like the guys say, it shouldn't be a problem. If it was on a $4000 cabinet saw though...
jwidhalm
Thanks for the input guys. I'll look to see how the top is attached to the cabinet. See if there is a way to shim I up or something. Because the sled seems to be fine I'm not to worried about those cuts. What do you think about cuts without the sled? Think I'll have any issues with cuts on larger pieces like sheets of plywood?
drzaius
Personally, I'd give Ridgid a call on this. Should still be under warranty. The more I think about it, if it was my saw, it would bug me to no end.
jwidhalm
I do have the lifetime warranty. Just want to be sure I have a legitimate issue before I call. I don't have tons of experience with table saws. This is the first one I've had that even worth trying to tune.
drzaius
Even if you have been getting good cuts, there may be a situation arise where that defect might affect things. The table is supposed to be flat & that definitely isn't.
jwidhalm
Good point. Worst they can say is they won't fix it. Think I'll give them a call. I'll post back what they say.
bleedinblue
Sled or no sled, no problem. That part of the saw table isn't the reference for anything. It supports off cuts, and not many off cuts will touch that part of the table I'd guess. I understand the principle and annoyance of knowing the dip is there though.
