Very nice piece and sorry for your loss - I understand the feeling of losing loved ones, and pets are no different. Try to keep your mind focused on all the positive memories. It sounds like he had a long life (by pet standards) in a loving home, and that is something that all pets can only hope for.

Kent, I'm sorry for your loss. Unless you've experienced the unconditional love and devotion that only a good dog can offer you can't relate to the loss once they're gone. You've done Barney right. Yesterday I celebrated 9 years with my Maggie. Like Rick said earlier, she has taught me much about relationships, loyalty, living in the moment and appreciating the seconds we have together. 

Dog is love.
