DennisR
I glued purple heart with maple and when sanding the maple was being darkened by the purple heart or something. I was not as white when I started. how do I prevent this when gluing dark and light wood together and sanding?
Tpt life
Try a card scraper from light to dark.
Coop
I agree. You're sanding the Purple Heart dust into the maple. Like washing colored clothes with your whites.
DennisR
thanks for quick reply I tried sanding but will try scraper. is there a way to prevent this other than sanding before gluing and don't sand after glued together? You could try doing a seal coat before sanding to fill the grain and pores a little. You'd have to test this out on some scraps to figure out the right amount of sealing to do.

Joseph has the right idea ... use a pore filler before sanding. Also, if try doing all but the last grit or two with a belt sander with the belt moving light to dark and then finish with a high grit on a ROS.
