Chud
Anyone got any tips or tricks in setting up the iron position on a 110? I picked an old one up off ebay a while back, I've flattened it and honed the iron but I'm struggling a bit to get an even thickness fine shaving from it - I either seem to set it to bite too deep or nothing at all...or different side to side! I've got it working reasonably well now after quite a lot of fiddling but I'm now not looking forward to honing the blade again. Anyone got any tricks other than get something other than a 110? RichardA
It's a lot like the old wooden planes. Tap and tighten, try again, then reset, tap and tighten Etc: It takes a while, but that's how it's done.
Tpt life
I've seen and so adopted an aid for planes that are tricky to adjust. I am not sure who put it out there first or if it is ancient. Take some thin strip of something easy to cut like pine or poplar. Pull that on either side of the iron to gauge its cutting depth and evenness before taking the plane to your workpiece. Here is a variation on that about 6.5 minutes in.
