gee-dub
This one from Peachtree for about $18 has served me well for many years.
Barron
Lee Valley has one, and Glen-Drake has them in a number of different sizes.

This photo came up on my google search, when you go to Peachtree and click on that very photo it doesn't show up in their listing.
Tony Wilkins
Glen Drake I think designed the original version.

ClassAct
When I first saw that pic, I thought, that's not a mallet, it's a medical tool. :D

If your doctor needs to use something like that on you, then you're in serious trouble.

It's funny you mention that. I can watch TV programs or science specials where surgeries take place. But there some surgeries that the doctors us medical forms of shop tools. And like I said I can watch the surgery but the minute they turn on a "shop tool" I get nauseated, True story.
xxdabroxx
You're gonna have a bad time... http://www.barbermedical.com/mallet-army-pattern.html My dad has a set of stainless medical "chisels" or gouges. They are super creepy, in an aluminum holder.

xxdabroxx
I don't think I could watch someone chisel on some bone either. If a Dr ever chisels on me I hope they are a well practiced woodworker with sharp tools though.
wtnhighlander
I've watched a few Discovery Channel medical shows where such tools are used. I'm pretty sure most of those docs would flunk shop class. Whatching a rhinoplasty is the worst.
Popular Post RichardA
I just recently had back surgery. The Doc had to drill out a part of my spine where a nerve goes through to the leg, in the process he had to chip away some osteo arthritis. I'm guessing he used a forstner bit and a 1/4 inch chisel. I could be wrong. I went for a follow up today, and forgot to ask.

Popular Post wdwerker
I had hip surgery years ago. They were going to drill out a dead spot on the bone .When I was in the operating room I asked to see the drill bit. After insisting and whining he brings out the bit, it was sterilized in a plastic sleeve. It was made by Greenlee, same company that makes drill bits for electricians, locksmiths etc. We both agreed that we shared carpentry skills and pride in our tools !
wtnhighlander
Good call on checking the bit, Steve. If he came out with a B&D paddle bit, I would have run / hobbled for the hills!
