Jgr327
I've built a farm table. Now time for stain. I have pine pedestals and wormy maple top. I did a bunch of tests on the wormy maple and the pedestals. My wife liked the colonial maple, so I stained the pedestals colonial maple, but they went a totally different colour than the wormy maple sample. I knew the different woods would have a bit of a difference, but it's more than I wanted. Is there a way to mix some minwax stains to achieve the same colour between the maple and pine? The legs are stained already, so I would be matching the pine to the maple. Thanks
treeslayer
i've mixed Minwax stains in the past, sounds like some trial and error is needed on scrap pieces. i think Minwax has sample packs you could get to mix without buying whole cans to save some money. welcome to the forum and let us know how it turns out, with pictures. Merlau
i to have mixed min wax stains to get to the color desired. perhaps you could lighten the legs some to help in your color match.
Brendon_t
For me, matching substantially different woods with stain had always been a loosing battle. I found dyes to be a much better alternative for me as I could lay down thin coats until I get the desired color match.
wtnhighlander
+1 to Mike. Pine will never look like maple, and vice-versa. Use contrast, even if it is contrasting stain rather than paint.
