Popular Post wtnhighlander
A recent post about finishing wood with shoe polish made me remember these characters. I whittled these from 2x2 construction lumber, in the late 1970s or early 80s. HillBilly and Hound, finished with Kiwi medium brown wax shoe polish. HillBilly had to give up smoking after his corn cob pipe broke off, somewhere along the way. I was 15 or 16 when I made these, using just a whittling jack. I'm looking forward to the day life slows down enough that I can sit around and whittle again. Hopefully with improved results!

Marmotjr
I got a small stack of different colored polish from the drug store a while back, and have been playing with it on the lathe. It's kinda cool to blend the colors together when you buff them out. It'd be a pain to do it by hand, but at 4k RPM, they blend pretty well. I don't have any pics or finished pieces, just test pieces. But I got the idea from bowl turning videos where they blend the inside of a bowl out the a different shade on the rim. Well, hurry up and make something we can see, I can't wait!
