Popular Post Nick Nelson
Both pretty simple design. The mailbox is African Mahogany glued up from a 8/4 board and a big half lap joint. The address plaque is Sapele that has been tinted a bit darker.
bushwacked
what did you finish those with? Just curious how they will hold up in the elements? Looks great though! I may steal your idea on the number plaque!
Nick Nelson
Thanks bushwacked, Both have several coats of Helmsman Spar Uraethane followed by a little wax before installation. They won't last forever but I've found this to do quite well in the past. Additionally very occasionally I'll wipe them down with mineral oil (I don't know if this actually helps or just cleans them but it seems to increase the life.) The mailbox post also received some epoxy on the bottom.
treeslayer
nice job Nick and welcome to the forum, a little light sanding and re-coat once in a while should keep them looking good for a long while

Chet
Welcome to the forums Nick. Both of those look real nice, I especially like the address sign, it has a nice contrast between the numbers and the house.

Nick Nelson
Thank you for all the complements, and the warm welcome. I live in SW Florida. Shaneymack, I don't think it will get a baseball batt around here but one of the neighbors did vere off the road and take care of the first one I made from cedar! Pondhockey
I like both! I'm in snow country, so we would build a higher post and hang the box from the post with chains (helps both with baseball bats and snow plows.) We often install a concrete core first, with a bracket installed in the concrete. That practice would translate to your neck of the woods better than the chains. Next time the post rots out, think about the concrete base. You might even be able to use the same post! Love the way you've finished the post and the plaque. Welcome aboard!
