Popular Post Bulldog
Well. I was going to build a wall cabinet for my hand tools. I changed my mind because I don't have that many, and I do the majority of my woodworking at my friend's shop. I would like to transport tools back and forth, so I decided to switch to Mike Pekovich's Essential Tool Chest. The above his his, made out of butternut and English brown oak. I don't have access to that, so I'm going with cherry and walnut. After milling, I'm not real happy with the cherry I have but such is life. My grain matching is going to be very subpar, but I still consider myself a newbie so... Some glueups. Completely neglected an entire shelf. Oops. I guess I'll start with dovetailing the two sides and the bottom. As of tonight, this where I'm at. Cut one set of pins and I'm removing the waste. My chiseling was interrupting dance moms so the girlfriend made me stop.

Since you already know where the improvements can be for the next one, you are ahead of most "newbies" Good work so far.

Bulldog
Had a day in the shop. It started out promising, then ended in frustration. I began by working on the dovetails on the case sides, and the pins on the case bottom. Here is the left side and bottom So far so good. Then I worked on the pins on the right side of the case. Everything was going well until I looked at the bottom and a chunk of wood was missing. Forgot to take a picture, but looks like I had an issue with "shake". Big checks suddenly appeared. I'm going to attemp to save it. I've had issues with this whole batch of cherry on this project. I tried to be pretty careful picking these boards out, but they suck. Bulldog
It's amazing how slow I can be in the shop. I totally miscut one fat pin. Can you spot it? Not sure how I did that. Had to pare it way down. Making a little progress. Not sure if it will really show up in the pictures, but the bottom panel had really bad checking that showed up out of nowhere. So I took some drastic measures. Cut out a big thick groove and then splined in another piece of cherry. Not sure my terminology is right.
