-MattK-
I'm putting a half mortise lock in a cabinet door: http://www.horton-brasses.com/half-mortise-cabinet-locks.asp I'm not looking forward to mortising the lock into my nice, completed door, but I don't think I can put it off much longer. Any advice on a bit to use for this task? I'll be using a new-to-me Festool MFK 700 router on this. Some sort of spiral up-cut bit?
Immortan D
I use chisels and a router plane for small mortises. I sometimes remove material with a forstner bit to save time.
wdwerker
I've got the MFK 700 and unless you are planning to whip up a jig to use with a pattern bit it may not be the best choice. Unlike other trim routers the bit isn't visible when cutting while using the oblong standard base. The first thing I would do is layout the mortice on some scrap and find the problem spots before you tackle the actual door !
