Renzo
Hi I'll be heading south to Syracuse in the near future. Anyone here from that area? Are there any good retail woodworking or tool stores in the area?

meatball
I am from Syracuse. I am new to woodworking so not too sure what is around. there is a woodworkers warehouse in Auburn, NY, (West of Syracuse). I have not been there, but I may take a drive out this weekend to check it out. I've been looking for a reason, now I have one. muddlermike
All that's around is the big box stores. You'll have to go to Rochester, Buffalo, or head east to CT. I do most of my woodworking tool shopping online. However, there's a decent Hardwood dealer in the Pulaski area that specializes in cherry and maple. he can get some really nice stuff in. He had a 2' wide by 10' long piece of 8/4 yellowheart once and gets other exotics, periodically. http://www.lakeshorehardwoods.com/ http://www.woodcraft.com/stores/Default.aspx?locationType=state&location=NY http://www.rockler.com/retail/index.cfm?store=11&CFID=38588751&CFTOKEN=24849a990669cee7-B0ABF035-1372-6771-F6B747ECEC7333FC

garygrant
Hi, I'm new to the discussion. My name is Gary and I live near Newark, NY about midway between Syracuse and Rochester. The Woodcraft store in Rochester is the best place around. I haven't been to the new Rockler store in Buffalo. Most of my purchases lately have been internet finds. We spend the winter in the South. I like to stop at Highlands Hardware in Atlanta. It is a fantastic store for woodworkers. All these have an internet presence and one can also sign up for paper catalogs and newsletters. Highlands and Woodcraft send me regular mailings as well as email notices. There doesn't seem to be many woodtalk people in our area. efmrrt
Nothing in Sewercuse. You'll need to go to Rochester for Woodcraft or Buffalo for Rockler. Otherwise it's the net for purchases. Trip to Hearne Hardwoods for lumber.
dmule
Hi Renzo. Are you here yet? I live in Cicero. Lakeshore Hardwoods is top notch like Mike said. I bought a little under 300 bf of Peruvian Walnut from him for a kitchen cabinet project. I called and gave Brian the heads up and a week later it was there. They now have a few satelite stores. One in Vestal (I think) and the other in d'town Syr. @ CabFab. Tools and associated accessories can be had at Syracuse Industrial Sales on Lemoyne Ave. A lot of my purchases are online. Good Luck Dan
