dvoigt
I'm a casual cigar smoker, typically on special occasions. I combined this with my love of pen turning. What in the world do you do with the cigar band when you are done smoking it? Maybe throw it out, but what if you want to keep it? That is why I say: save it, and make it functional! They are cigar style pens, made with closed ends out of walnut burl. The walnut is a great match for the color of a Maduro wrapper and the burl mimics the irregularities of the wrapper. At a glance in the pocket of a shirt it looks just like a cigar. I seal in the band and have about 10-12 layers of thick CA to keep the band on and protected. Let me know what you think! Karl Bauer
That is a great Idea! I think it adds a unique look to what might otherwise be "just another pen".

dvoigt
The only cigars we don't have are those made in Cuba... and from what I hear, those aren't always the best. I'm going to Mexico in the next year, maybe I'll try one there. I sometimes have a rough throat the next day, just depends on what I smoked. Thanks for the compliments. dvoigt
Damn cool Idea....love it!!!! Is it a problem finding cigar bands? -Ace- Thanks! I had a small collection of my own bands, and I reached out to members on other forums that sent me some that they had. Those are good to practice on. Although my goal of the pen was to have people send me their bands from a cigar that they smoked at a memorable event. That way they have the band with them as a reminder, rather then having it stuffed in a drawer only to be later thrown out.
Chili
Very unique and inspirational indeed! I may have to try that one of these days. I have a half full humidor and a fresh shipment from PSI. It's ideas like yours that brought me here. Keep up the good work!
jHop
I like it! If you wanted to present them to a fellow afficionado, you could always save a tube or seven and present the pen inside one. That or start making humidors... Still a very nicely done!
