  1. I have a Performax 16-32 drum sander and I was reading in the manual I'm supposed to lubricate the bushings on the conveyor belt motor. That is all it says, and I don't know if I'm supposed to pull them out and lubricate behind the bushing, or what. Also, what to use? A dry lube or what? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks! Tony
  2. I got started as a kid, puttering around with my Dad's tools; just hammers and hand saws used for everyday home repairs. I used to build "furniture" for my G.I.Joe's and other toys. I just found The Wood Whisperer about 3 months ago, finally got caught up on all the Podcasts. This Forum is a great thing! There aren't any woodworkers around me that I know of, so this makes me feel not so isolated in this obsession of mine. Thanks to all of you for all the inspiration and comradery! Tony
  3. I'm with you! I built my first sled when I needed to cut some 8/4 wood. Can you see how that ended? TA
  4. I also thought these would be great, but was real disappointed with them. The glue dried up in the top, which is the main thing I was trying to avoid. I'm now a French's mustard bottle fan! Tony
  5. I can't stand taking time out to change sandpaper on the drum sander, 6 x 48 belt sander, etc, Also, changing blades on the bandsaw, planer, jointer. Tony
  6. His older brother died as a result of an accident at a sawmill he worked at.
  7. Todd, thanks for the video, I look forward to seeing the others! I also sell most of my work at craft shows. There are a couple I've been doing for a few years, and it's worked out pretty well for me. There are people now that come out to the shows year after year to buy things from me to give as Christmas gifts; it's really gratifying when people say " I bought a cutting board from you last year and I love it! I need more this year to give my friends!" For me, this has worked out really well. People will come up to me and say "Oh, you do woodworking! I've always wanted this thing.........." It has expanded my skill set as I've taken on projects that I would never have built just because. Doing things this way keeps you busy, but you have to be adaptable and willing to try new projects and techniques. Tony
  8. The problem for me is I can't figure out how to get pressure across the face as well as on the ends. I glue up many narrow strips of wood using side grain, and it will slide and /or bow during clamp-up. Putting cauls across the face is difficult because of the clamps going from from end to the other. Tony
  9. Greetings from South Texas! I saw the Damstom system in the Rockler store, but saw it on the way out and was rushing to a meeting. In looked it up, but can't find a whole lot of information on it. I own the Woodriver system, but I make cutting boards cut on a diagonal, so the clamps aren't parallel. Has anybody used this? Thanks for any and all advice! Tony
