  1. Wow I havent been on this site in a while. Good to see you smythts. Welcome to the middle of the state.
  2. Thank you lwllms for you time and explanation. I never had thought to scribe the skew with the iron in the plane. I had just followed the prexisting bevel. There was also a good bevel on the side of the iron, that i sharpened. I do beleve it is teh side of the iron that is giving me the problem. Thank you for your time. Admission... I can put a scary sharp edge on a chisel and plane blade and have been using sharpies for setup on the bevel. I had to google layout fluid to see what it was. I didn't know the stuff existed. We learn something every day. Today i learned about 2 things. thanks
  3. Guys I have acquired 2 skewed rabbet planes and am i need of setup and technique tips. Here are the two planes I have purchased. Forgive the first picture that was taken before the refurbish. The biggest problem I am having is stair stepping. What is the proper angle for the bevel on the irons? Thank you for any tips. Dave
  4. I have finally done it. I want to thank everyone for there help. A new tool box is in the near future. Thanks guys
  5. How long of a length are you trying to flatten? Remember your scrub and jack planes do most of that work. Once you go to the joiners and smoothing planes, you are only removing a 1/6 to a 1/10 of the material. You can work yourself to death. I know I have the blisters to prove it. Do you mark all the surface of the board? Do you use winding sticks? Swartz has a great video on Course Medium and Fine. And it is geared on planing lumber.

  7. Sorry imho, The body is replaceable it is wood. The iron is not. I would float the sides of the body. Or if your hardcore set the body aside and copy it. Here aresome I have refurbished over the last 2 months
  8. HB's 9 inch is a quick release and has a dog. Its just a tad better than the 10 inch. Uhh I have both of them on my bench.
  9. How did you attach [what looks like walnut] to the brass hammer?
  10. I have a set of 4. And have been pleased with them. They hold a good edge and are purdy. Jk. I would recommend them.
