  1. I built a cutting board for my daughter for Christmas I was making it in a checker board pattern, the walnut I was using had a lot of sap wood on one edge of the 8 quarter board I worried that the contrast against the maple would look weird so I wiped some mineral spirits on both pieces and I liked the contrast of the sap wood and the maple it was an interesting pairing my point is mineral spirits wiped on the wood will show what it will look like after the finish is applied good luck. Oh and my daughter loved her cutting board.
  2. I have one also, mine was from an old family friend Harbor Freight it's bristles are from old synthetic fibers. I actually have two of them and never can find one when needed... now where did that damn brush go Rrrrr
  3. Beautiful chairs Drew, I really like that you celebrated all the flaws in the boards. I like the using lumber warts and all, I've never built chairs before, but watching your chair builds makes me want to dip my toes in the water.
  4. I have an older Delta 50-760 dust collector and want to change over from a bag filter to a canister filter. You can find Delta canister filters but, not the right flange lip diameter ( I'm not sure I'm using the right terminology) all the delta filters have a larger diameter then my 15 3/4" diameter. I found a YouTube video of a guy that made a Wynn canister filter work on a 50-760 I looked at the Wynn web sight and the Wynn filter doesn't have the flapper handle thingy for cleaning the filter flutes. Anyway my question is has anyone have a solution for my dilemma, I've thought about making a wooden ring that fits over my existing flange O.D and has a bigger O.D that would work for a bigger diameter canister filter or, make the wooden ring fit my I.D and reduces for a smaller canister filter, here is a photo of my DC I would be interested for anyone's thoughts on this. Thanks
  5. I love the smell of mineral spirits in the morning.....it smells like victory! No I spilled some turpentine on my shop floor, I wiped up what I could it stunk real bad for several days. But over time it didn't stink as much I left the shop open while I was working out there. Good luck
  6. It looks like your missing a guide block on the upper right side, you should have guide blocks on the under side of the bandsaw bed. And if it's anything like my bandsaw the blocks should be almost touching the blade (my saw has bearings not blocks) your blocks aren't even close to the blade this may be your problem read your manual for setting up your saw guides properly. I know I was having problems with my bandsaw and when I checked the lower bearings one of the side bearings had fallen off it was an easy fix and worked great after I fixed it.
  7. No set up is 100% accurate, perfect is a goal but, in reality there comes a point where it is good enough. In the Machinists world it is called chasing zero's and, no I'm not a Machinist I'm just saying, the machinists have and, use some pretty sophisticated measuring tools and they are never 100% accurate but they are within tolerances which... is good enough.
  8. And the error is actually .125 because if each angle cube was off equally the same each cube would have an error of .125 for a total error of .25 . When I was a carpenter and I was pulling a cross square measurement if the error was off 1/8" the square of the building was actually only out of square 1/16".
  9. I think Claro Walnut grows more in Oregon/California area, Western Washington is more Big Leaf Maple, Alder, Ash, some White Oak and, I can see some Live Oak looking out my office window. Our weather here in western Washington is kind of gloomy over cast, lots of rain due to the Cascade mountain range it causes the clouds to dump the rain on us and, eastern Washington is more desert country lots of scrub brush and Pine trees. Thanks for the question, oh we have great summers here in Western Washington.
  10. Thanks @gee-dub I like your shop also bud.
  11. Oh You were asking about the big disk over my miter saw station, That's a saw mill blade that I bought from a guy who had it laying out in his field. I had a big log that I had at the end of my driveway after I stood it up in a 4' hole and packed the hole with gravel I sliced the log with my chain saw vertically and mounted the saw blade up on top of the log/pole because that's my brand. The log rotted out over the years so I mounted it on my wall lagged into one of the poles of my pole barn.
  12. Here is the Longworth chuck build
  13. @Mark J Yes the dog leg (I wasn't aware of the name of it) was a standard accessory and was part of the kit, the disk on the wall I'm thinking is the longworth chuck I made years ago for doing the bottom of the first bowl I turned on my old Grizzly lathe it was a fun build. The disk below the lathe is a clamp I made to glue my segmented rings together it works great I keep modifying it I think I'm finally happy with it now. Thanks for asking.
  14. @Coop 36' x 36'
  15. Well @Coop I did tidy up a bit, it doesn't always look like that, I try to keep it clean and tidy but it's a mess more than I care too admit
