  1. Thanks everyone. More clamps will be purchased, just not in the budget at the moment. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Fingers crossed!
  2. I started drilling holes for clamps as Mark did, but realized I don't have the number of clamps of that style required, nor the budget to get them. But I have enough parallel clamps to do the trick. However, that type of clamp would have had a rough time with the curve of the arm, so I cut notches in the bottom of the form so that the clamps would have a place to grip. More than one way to skin a cat I guess.
  3. Mine is doing great. I used 3 coats of penetrating epoxy followed by 2 coats of gloss spar varnish and one matte finish (to finish). The wood is sapele. So far so good! I am making 3 more at the moment. 2 for wedding presents for for my son and his fiance, and one for my wife. I plan on doing the same finish on those as well. Buzz
  4. I was working on the ebony plugs for the chair and it just seemed to take forever to get them to a nice polished rounded end. I was using Marc's tip of using the drill, but it still was taking a while. I kept thinking about something else I could use to polish them when it hit me. I have a Work Sharp with 3200 grit on the top wheel sitting on my workbench. I turned that on, and using the drill spinning the ebony against the Work Sharp, it polished them to a nice shine in a fraction of the time. It takes some practice to keep a steady hand, but worth it. Hope that helps someone else. Buzz
  5. Hmmm, this looks like a winner to me! Thanks Aaron!
  6. Awesome! So glad to see one finished. I will be going the book matched route as well, so it gives me some confidence. (And a high bar to shoot for!)
  7. Hi folks, I am really looking forward to this as it is my first group build. Hey Marc, In your spare time ;-) , I was wondering if you already post, or could post some stats about the guild. How many members... where is everyone from , how many are participating in the builds, etc. Thanks for all your time and help! Buzz
