  1. I just hate the idea of knives hanging below the top - makes me shiver!

    Nicely done! VERY unusual dovetails!
  3. If anyone is interested in seeing the Split top Roubo with the Lie- Nielsen hardware, I have just finished my bench and did a photo step-by-step www.sawdustandwoodchips.com The folks at Lie-Nielsen were wonderful with their support - for a while we were even exchanging sketches as to how the wagon vise would work. I did use the parallel Guide kit and the benchcrafted bench bolts and of course the BC plans (thankyou BC) Because of the way that I built this bench, if I decide in the future to install the BC hardware I will have little issue.
  4. All wood no matter the species will work against you - it will warp, swist, expand and contract. The factors effecting it are numerous, including how, where and when it is stored how it was cut (flat, Rift or Quarter sawn). Are you stickingthe wood and allowing air to circulate? (never lay on a concrete floor). There are so many variables. I always stick new wood (and place a couple of 80lbs bags of sand on top to keep it flat) and leave it to aclimate for at least 2 weeks - then dimension the wood over size and again leave to aclimate for a few days before final dimentioning and at that point put it together! that way there is less likelyhood of additional movement. The book by R. Bruce Hoadley is an excellent choice. Good Luck!
  5. Nice Job! were you concerned that the blades prodruding below the top?
  6. Six Months later and I have finally finished the Roubo. Thanks Marc for the step by step! No videos, but a whole truck load of step-by-step photographs at www.sawdustandwoodchips.com Looking forward to doing something smaller :-)
  7. Further updates to the Roubo Build www.sawdustandwoodchips.com/projects
  8. Thanks - I found a great supply of Ash at $1.50 a bft - should look good.
  9. this has been the case for some weeks - I went ahead and used hardware from Lie-Nielsen and have adapted the plan - it will be a simpe matter to swap out to teh new BC hardware - although by the time they are up with demand I will no doubt be very satisfied with my alternative design. if you are interested - you can follow my progress at www.sawdustandwoodchips.com . _________
  10. I have made much progress on the bench base - if anyone wants to look at the progress here's a link www.sawdustandwoodchips.com this has been a great build!!!
  11. I notice that Marc uses one of these - but do not see that many positive reviews on it - any comments? I have an offer currently of $145 seems like a great deal - but want some feedback before buying. many thanks

  14. This is great info!! Thanks!
  15. I have never used a MP - in the 30+ years of woodworking I have always used a carpenters pencil. Sharpened with a chisel and if I want a really sharp point finetune with sand paper.
