Hey everyone. I've been off of Wood Talk for quite a while while I had some professional things going on and was moving. I'm now living in Bavaria for a few years, anyone else in Germany? I'm especially wanting to find some woodworking schools/classes that are offered in English around here. Anyone?

As a new woodworker, completely unable to find any relevant woodworking courses in Cardiff (or Pontypridd, where I live), and I'm struggling to find any clubs for general woodworking in my area. So, I'm prepared to put up, not shut up, and start a club.

I imagine a club could meet regularly, to share ideas, skills, show of projects and provide advice to newbies like me. I'm a general interest woodworker myself and would welcome general woodworking, scrollsawing, carving, turning and anything of woody interest!

BUT, I need help!

To start a club I'd need some interested members, and would ask anyone in this forum:

1. If you are in South Wales are you interested in joining / helping me to form a club?

2. Does anyone in the forum have any ideas / advice about starting a club? (could we have guest speakers / lessons / what are the logistics / any problems / issues etc.).

3. Can anyone recommend venues where the club could meet? (I'm thinking colleges / schools with woodshops etc.)

Please post in this thread or PM if interested.

Merry Christmas!

	Hi everyone.

My name is Rafal and I`ve been a lurker on here for a while now. Got here through Marc`s YT films and I like what I can see. Hope I will be able to contribute something to the forums but I`m at the beginning of my woodworking journey so will probably do more asking than telling. In the process of setting up shop (going with a frame build - adventure in itself trying to find help with that in my country. Supposedly anything else than brick and mortar will tumble with a first whiff of wind ). Anyway, will start a thread when the build is on (middle of winter here so have to wait until spring), More time for gathering tools. Ahh..And sorry for less than perfect language, will do my best to make my posts understandable.

	Have a great day!

	Rafal

I'm farming (for my sins in a previous lifetime) woodwork is an ocassional hobby along with blacksmithing and photography. One of the benefits of farming is that I get free timber, only expense is waiting for it to dry.

I knew that Europe runs on 220V/50Hz, but I didn't even know 340V existed.

My question - what kind of 340V tools exist? What tools would benefit from 340V vs. 220V?

Not much fine furniture here, mostly practical stuff. For example in my local shops, and big DIY stores they have varnish, oil, wax. If you ask for a type of oil you just get, "here is oil" and a big 10 litre can marked "oil". There are no types within, whereas in uk i could get at least 30 types of oil easily.

Asking for "pre-catalysed lacquer"? Forget it, the answer is "here is oil". So any help from native fine furntire woodworkers appreciated!
