Workbench

Lawrence Brown

This was my first large project, made in about 2008. The top consists of alder cut-offs from a friend's friend that had a saw mill. Not the hardest of woods for a bench top, but they were free. All pieces were cut to size on a benchtop tablesaw, then matched for thickness and laminated using tightbond III glue and a huge mess o' bar clamps from Harbor Freight. Once glued together, I flattened the surface by hand with a #6 plane, a long level for a straight edge, and sparkplug gap feeler gauges to slide under the level to gauge the flatness. I had planned on doing blog write-up on the whole process, but of course now I can't find the photos.
