sample results initial coat

jHop

Here you can see the results of the first coat I applied. Both were applied at the same time, and allowed to soak unobserved for 24 hours. The blank on top was applied thick and heavy, the blank on the bottom was applied lightly. The upper blank was covered on two faces and one side, as well as both ends, by blue painters tape (made by 3M, I believe. I will also document other masking materials as I think of them.) The lower piece was only covered on the bottom (wrapped the edges up about 1/2 inch) and ends. The stripe of tape was deliberate: initially it was to test CA soak rate, but later I determined I needed a way to tell them apart at first glance.

I'm particularly impressed with the "grain pattern" visible. The CA really enhanced this, and turned it from "meh" to "wow," in my opinion.
