Broken stretcher #1

The top pieces are was the end from the "Broken End in place" photo. The second set of pieces was from the other stretcher on the opposite side of the bench. So as you can see it catastrophically failed along one end of the piano bench. I suspect metal brackets came lose on the legs. Over time the side to side motion of the bench as someone got on and off the bench stressed the wood until it failed.
