Tissue Box
Purple heart cut to 5 3/4” width, planed to 1/2”, cut on a 45 to 4 1/2” inside length. Maple for the splined miter joints and top laminate. Before glue up, I cut a kerf on panels 1 and 3 to accept a maple slat that holds the tissue box in. I cut the slat to approximate length, tapered the thickness of the ends to go into the kerf, and rounded the corners. To install the slat, I insert it on a diagonal and then straighten it. Tinker a little and you’ll get the length right so it’s tight in the kerfs. Two coats of Tung Oil and two coats of Deft spray lacquer brushing off with fine steel wool in between all the coats. A few more and I'll have unique Christmas presents! Thanks for looking.
