Delta Iron Bed 1440

Hello,

I'm pretty handy with woodworking and wood tools in general. I’m a turning novice, but I have an opportunity to buy this same lathe. What can you tell me about your experience and what kind of bowl diameter can I expect to turn?  Can I buy a chuck that clamps to a bowl base?

@CharlieB, I'm afraid the original poster hasn't logged in for nearly a decade. Hopefully, another member will chime in with helpful info.

FWIW I have this lathe and while it has served me well it has a known issue with the belt pully breaking and it is a part that is no longer available becuase of that if you aren't sure of the history make sure you get a good deal.

Thanks for the heads up. I had read about this problem so I guess I’m now doubly informed. I did buy the lathe. It was a good price, came with gouges, and has never been used…. Stored in a basement since 2006. I’ll keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best. Do you have any preventative maintenance suggestions?

No mine gets light use and has held up fine. I do check the pully and belts annually but other than that nothing else.
