White Oak Afghan Rack

Drirot

My cousins husband had died and she gave me some of his things. Among them were 2 scroll sawn panels shown here. Later she asked me to make her an afghan rack, and I had been trying to figure out how to use those panels. I came up with this idea. All parts except for the base, and panels are made up of 1/2" white oak which came from our local veneer manufacturer. The each upright consists of 4 pieces 2 grooved sides with the other inserted in those grooves to create a square tube, with a small cap on top. The horizontals are 1/2". The panels are mounted to 1/2" x 1/2 pieces that are inserted into the side horizontal tubes, making the appear to float in the space. Finished with satin poly.
