  1. After dark, I answer the door undressed. Scares the hell out of 'em and they never come back.

  2. I loved truck driving. Great money, and a lot of freedom, from unnecessary people and problems, and there is a beautiful country to see and visit, especially if you own your truck.

  3. It's to bad but probably true. Anytime you try and shove everyone through the same hole you most assuredly are not getting the best out of everyone's abilities. I loved college (went as an adult) but it isn't for everyone that's for sure. I crack up every year I do my SIL's taxes and see his 6 figure income on a high school diploma and a CDL. I know a lot of college graduates that would love to make that kind of money and honestly be as happy as he is in is profession.

  5. I've reached a tipping point with living with my 6" jointer and an upgrade has moved to the top of the tool priority list. I'm in a small basement shop so getting a big jointer in there is not realistic. A combo machine doesn't suit my workflow. So really the only option I have would be to build one myself, ala Matthias Wandel and John Heisz. Their builds used a cutterhead from a lunchbox planer. Matthias also used the motor from the planer, John used an induction motor. They both made the tables out of plywood skinned with thick sheet metal. That's the part that I really had misgivings

  8. Maybe not all truckers. Some of the people driving them don't seem to have the same respect for other motorists as they used to.

  10. I would alter your plans to accommodate the lumber available. As far as resawing a 2x8x12, I wouldn’t attempt it, even on my bs. And if it’s treated, it ain’t going on my bs, regardless of the size.

  11. A question about why you need an 8" wide board? If it is just to make the widths work out evenly across the joists, I think you would be better off to trim a little width from each of the several preceeding 6" boards, rather than try to glue up a wider piece. That method is all but guaranteed to not turn out well, unless perhaps if you are painting over it.

  12. Parts starting to come in! The motor came strapped to an unfortunate piece of 1/8" plywood. I mean I guess it did the job because the mounting plate isn't bent, but come on. Also they sent the wrong switch. And the beast. Weighs a ton. I went with a Grizzly head because it was $675 compared to $750 for the Byrd. Feel a little bad about it but times are tough. I have a Byrd in my 6" jointer and there's two differences I can tell. There are no balancing holes in the Grizzly, so either it happened to be perfect or they don't do any balancing. And you'll notice on th
