  1. Shane! HEY! Did you ever finish those sculpted chairs? Finally got some good free time.
  2. Man the grass is green on the other side of the fence. In this situation that's just symbolic. Nice machine Mick.
  3. Thanks coop. Feels good that my life has slowed down enough to drop back in.
  4. Thanks for your post i'm looking hard at a 2hp Onida unit. I have 6 tools but will only have about 18 feet of hard line.
  5. The light look of the trestle was the whole reason i chose this. There isn't any storage but i told my girlfriend i can make that later or we could get a metal filing cabinet. My biggest complaint about commercial desks is that they always have panels and i can't stretch my legs out. With the pictures the part you can't see is how many times i moved my flashes and played with angles and stuff. I spent probably 45 min just trying to get pictures.
  6. Acording to the NEC that would be too much for a circuit. I run my "2hp" HF dc on a 20 amp circuit all the time. If it's an option 220 would be roughly half the amperage. I say you can do it with the warning the the safety police are going to harass me.
  7. Thanks guys. Honestly i feel like i out did myself on this one. I've got a long list of projects that i want to get done so I'll stay in the game. Though i'm back i might not be as active as i once was.
  8. Been gone a while. Decided to come back. This was my first sort of fine woodworking project i made in my new still evolving shop (I'm still in the basement just more space ) My new roommate wanted a desk so i designed it roughly off of Marcs trestle table. Wedges were made from Cherry scraps. I used thread taps to hold the stretchers to the angled leg in the middle. The whole thing comes apart the top is 2 pieces and every thing else comes apart. I could flat pack it in a 50" x 26" x 6" box if i really wanted to. Once together it's VERY sturdy. Finish is wiping poly 3 coats with a 200 grit platin finish sand. Firsts for me on the project were through tenons for the wedges as well as threaded holes to bolt things together. P.S. Walnut sucks to photograph in poor lighting.

    Hijack!

Wow this one is still going. I left off at page 112, guess i'll be reading for a while. I'm assuming the most important stuff i've missed is here.
  10. Was in a rush to finish my house, sold the house, moved, bought a house, setting up shop. Now i'm getting used to a new area, a new job, and a new shop. Sweet might join and see if i can hit a meeting here or there. Membership app card has been sitting on my desk for a month or so now.
  11. Hey i just moved to the area dose being a guild member open you up to being contacted a lot? I was thinking of joining for the meeting here and there and for the discount on lumber at youngbloods. *edit: can't make it to the seminar ND deer opener.
  12. Yes i do. I tensioned the saw when it was warm and then ran it when it was cold so i bet anything that it's from the constriction due to lower temperatures.
  13. It didn't even break on the weld. If you look between my middle and ring finger there is another break starting ... I feel like it shouldn't make a difference but the blade was probably sitting at 40 degrees F or 499.67 for those that prefer the Rankine scale.
  14. Went to resaw some zebrawood last night and 90% of the way through a short cut i heard a loud bang and then every thing went silent. ResawKing blade snapped after less then 200 BF of re-sawing (I don't know how else to measure this). I was cheesed. Called service they weren't the most inspiring to deal with on the phone and they told me to email them pictures. I sent the email at 9:00am CST they responded put an order in for a new blade closed the service ticked all with in 25 min with no questions asked. I now have a nice smile on my face. I no longer question their customer service.
  15. I should have put a smiley i was joking. I don't blame them 1 second for the late deliveries. RWD vans with huge sides in 40 mph winds on ice.... drivers could easily die in conditions like that. I've been shoveling 2 times a day for the last 8 days it's miserable.
  16. You have a great point! Curly maple and walnut it is!
  17. I have 4 packages that are 8 days late that were supposed to have 2 day shipping. UPS is complaining about blizzards and hazardous weather. I'm unimpressed 24" of snow and -20 windchill isn't that bad.
  18. Bear Mountain boats, the company Nick Offerman shot a canoe video for, uses west systems and special clear fro the fiberglass on their boats. I don't know off hand if they put any additional finish on top of it though.
  19. WOOO!!! Passed super happy about that now to pick out some expensive exotic to make a frame to frame up my professional certificate! Rosewood or Cocobolo ... or maybe becote .
  20. Is it impolite to say use walnut and don't stain it, maybe try and follow Gee_Dubs finishing schedule he did for his walnut dresser. If dead set on stain I'd stick with an oak or ash. Ash > oak in my opinion.
  21. I've always meant to ask. Are the DC plastic bags meant to be reused? I also thought about just putting a 2nd filter bag on the bottom to catch the chips and dust.
  22. Starting this for everyone. Share you small Christmas projects if you like. If you want to keep them secret post them after Christmas. I used a thread like this from a couple years ago to try and get good ideas for this year. I made my mom a few spurtles, at her request. My shaping of them was noobish (left) to start and got slightly better (center) but they are still far from perfect. Also made my first cutting board so i could truly join the woodworking community. The cutting board was to match a serving tray that i made for her last hear. This year she wanted it refinished because she mucked it up. My dad liked my purple heart mallet a lot and wanted one similar but smaller. I have a couple other gifts I'm working on I'll post later.
  23. Sanding by far. I enjoy sweeping. Moping is even better.
  24. Good work mel i like it!
  25. BLASPHEMY!!! There are a few different P100 filters and i don't know the difference between them. They all have the P100 rating which i think is the one we are looking for for dust.
