  1. Those look great, I'm going to try that, after I practice (a lot). One question, I watched some videos but could not determine how deep, half way? Thanks for the help.
  2. Thanks, I have the 206 and 105. Not sure what you mean abut bow tie across?
  3. I just spent the last two day reading all 66 pages of the finishing forum to try to get my questions answered. I think I have a good idea of what I should do but would like some input to make sure I'm on the right track. My kids brought me a slab of sugar maple as a present and I'm going to make a buffet table for the dining room. My question concern knot and crack filling. From the posts I should fill the knots and cracks with dyed epoxy? As for the finish, danish oil with a wiping finish. My question is if this will be a good finish for something that will have dishes put on it? Also what is the best dye to add to my west systems epoxy? I've never made anything from a live edge slab before so unsure as to the treatment for the edge. Same as the top? Or just danish oil? I've just got the blade marks sanded out but didn't want to sand further until I new what should be the next step. I will try to attach a picture. Amy comment or suggestion would be appreciated. I hope to have this done by the next time the kids come back, in a few months.
  4. OK thank you,I'll cover the areas.
  5. Question on prefinishing. I know I have to cover any area that is going to be glued, my question is if I use epoxy instead of wood glue do I still have to keep finish off these areas? The finish will be danish oil. Thank you
  6. Never having seen one in person what is the table height? Didn't see it in the write up. Lower write up. Lower would be better for me as I'm only 5'5".
  7. Thanks guess I'll hit the buy button.
  8. Thanks for the reply, I was liking the bigger motor just had not heard anything good or bad about laguna. will probably go that direction.
  9. I am going to buy a new band saw to replace my old 12 inch sears. I think I have it narrowed down to either the pm pwbs-14c deluxe, with riser,or the laquna 1412. I would appreciate any feed back on these two saws. I plan on some resawing and standard curves. This is just a hobby so no heavy commercial use. Thank you
  10. Thanks for the reply. I will try one of these methods.
  11. Thank you for taking the time to respond K.Cooper. The method was not in the original design so it wasn't covered in the videos. Guess I'll just wing it and hope for the best.
  12. I have just got back in town from work and see the guild is on to bigger and better things. I have decided to build the blanket chest and have a question on the bottom. Decided to do the alternate method but am not clear on the method of attaching the plywood to the deck. I'm pretty new at woodworking, is it just glued or is there another means to attach it. Would appreciate any advise I can get,I realize this is kinda behind for everyone. Thank you and merry Christmas

    Epoxy finish

Thank you for all the responces. A lot of information for a novice. I will go to the web sites recomended and try to purchase some vidios. I am still in the process of putting ot together but will post pictures when i finish. Might be awhile as im not fast! Just one more question if i could. It will have both vertical and horizonal pieces, can i put the epocy on before i assemble it? If i use epoxy instead of glue for the joints? I appreciate all the help.

Can anyone direct me to an artical or web site on finishing wood with an epoxy finish. I am making a tackle box and would like to put a waterproof epoxy finish on it. Any direction would be appreciated. Thank you.
  15. Does anyone know where i can get(buy) the plans for a tackle box, the kind that the front folds down? I have been all over the internet and can find pictures but no plans. I'm fairly knew to woodworking and do not have the skills required to look at a picture and figure it out. Thank you

    router help

I am pattern cutting. I dont believe im taking to much because it happens as soon as i touch the wood to the bit. As for feeding the wood, i am feeding the bit from right to left. Also its more of a kick back than pulling away from me. I will keep trying to post a picture so i can show what it doing. I may not be explaing it right. Thank you

    router help

I was hoping that someone could help me figure out what I'm doing wrong here. I am making a child's rocking chair. I have made one before using a straight cut pattern bit, but had to flip it(the wood) over due to the thickness of the wood. I bought 2 up cut spiral bits that would cover the thickness. when I tried to use it in my router table both times it grabbed the wood, kicked back, cutting deep into the blank. Don't know what's going on as I'm very new to wood working. I am trying to attach a picture, but not having much luck. Any suggestions would be appreciated.. thank you, slmize
