Sushi Tray

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, i want to build a sushi serving tray with a finger jointed beech board like this one http://2.imimg.com/data2/GM/QF/MY-233500/fingure-jointed-board-250x250.jpg (it's the only wood i found besides pine). I need some advice regarding finishing. I tried some spirit stains with poor results. I like tung oil but i don't think the one i have (chestnut brand) is pure so i don't know if is food-safe. I also tried mineral oil and the results are quite good (a step under tung oil). Have you any suggestions for a (very) poor talented woodworker?

Ciao!

If you want a film finish for food safe, it's hard to beat generals salad bowl finish. Also, make sure you use tite bond three for glue if you need to laminate your board.

The truth is, most finishes are deemed food safe after they have cured. Check out Marc's podcast on cutting boards. It's an oldie, but a goodie!
