Chet
For many years I have used mostly pipe clamps in my shop. Recently I started to think about getting some parallel clamps and this past Christmas "Mrs. Claus" got the collection started with 4 - 18 inch clamps and 4 - 24 inch clamps under the tree. I am fully aware of the adage "you can't have to many clamps". I did one simple project 2 weeks ago and used 7 of the 8 clamps. But I am interested in what sizes and numbers of each that some of the home hobbyist's have out there. Do you find any real need for shorter then 18 inch clamps? And I know that longer ones do come in handy but how many do you have. I do mostly furniture and cabinet type projects myself and just trying to come up with a plan for future purchases and at the price per clamp I want to try to avoid spending money on tools not used. ColinF
I've got some 12" clamps I use a lot, but most of my projects seem to be frames or toys so the shorter ones work out well for me, btw these are quick grip clamps and bar clamps, not parallel clamps. estesbubba
I use 12" a lot for face glue ups and probably 24" the most, but I also use 31, 40, and 50.
KenMasco
I have eight 12" Bessy parallel clamps that get more use than any other size I have. I have many different sizes
wdwerker
Most versitle is a 24" clamp, then a 12 or 18. 42-48" is next, then having a couple of 72 - 96" ones.
Pwalter5110
The majority of mine are 24 inch. I have a couple longer. But the only shorter clamps I have are F style clamps.
tim0625
I do have a couple long ones - 6 footers but I also have some pipe clamps with couplers that extend them into long clamps. But....most of my projects are small and I can do about everything with my 48s, 24s, 12s, and 6s....any you're right....you can never have too many. Dan S
I have a lot of 12", that get used all the time. The longer ones really only get used when it's time to glue up a large project.
