shaneymack
It's tough to find ebony dowel. I assume you're gonna turn your own? Or dowel plate? I will be using wenge in the rockers so i was thinking of doing the plugs out of wenge. I guess ebony would polish up a whole lot nicer. Either way, I won't use dowell I will use a tapered plug cutter Sent from my SGH-I337M using Tapatalk

Woodenskye
Wow! Shane you really are a "Pittbull" for the way you have attacked this project. The mahogany is a great choice.
Popular Post shaneymack
After i scooped out the seat yesterday i had some work to do at the front of it Cut this profile on the bandsaw Then i had to shape a large roundover Had some shaping to do under the pommel. I drew in the shape i liked then carved. Now on to shaping the arms Made marks for interior roundover Made a quick pass with grinding wheel Then i refined with the auriou crew Next the exterior roundover. Same process Next the underside Then the i shaped aroud the dowell hole. This came in handy Making the continuos hard line. Really starting to take shape Arms done. Time to attach to chair. I clamped them in place and marked out my screw hole. Same process as other holes except i did it with hand drill not the drill press Installed My wife and I both sat in the chair and felt every square inch of the arms to feel for inconsistencies between the two of them. A few touches with the 13 grain and i got them to the point that they feel exactly the same.Grandma is here for the weekend so i should be able to get lots of shop time. Today i will be working on the headrest and spindles!! 5 hours spent working. Total of 29 hours so far.Sent from my SGH-I337M using Tapatalk
Woodenskye
Shane you may actually be done by Christmas. So does the misses like how it sits? If she does, you may need to buy more wood to make a second so you don't fight over this one!

shaneymack
Just catching up on this Shane. A couple thoughts:1) Nice job on the video. You are a natural on camera. Don't worry about your funny accent. I am 100% positive every person on this forum has a funny accent. Some funnier than others, but yours is right there in the middle.2) Your bench gives me a chubby. I know the roubo is the holy grail around here, but your bench seems so versatile. I want one. 3) The mahogany is looking great. Lol. Thanks Mike. Youtube is not something i plan on doing regularly. Just wanted to show how i did the seat with that interface pad.As for the bench, im loving it more and more as the more i use it. Keeps surprising me just how versatile it is.Sent from my SGH-I337M using Tapatalk
Popular Post shaneymack
Today i started on the headrest. I cut the angles on the ends to fit snug between the legs. Cut the bottom profile Marked out the holes for the spindles Over to the drill press to drill the spindle holes. Cut the top profile and clamped it up. Ready for screws. Predilled three holes in both legs to screw the headrest. Now it was time to take the chair apart to work on the seat. I marked out the holes for the spindles. Over to the drillpress to drill the spindle holes Marked the back and side profiles Cut them at the bandsaw Rounded over the bottom edge with a roundover bit at the router table Next it was time to cut out the 7 spindles. Instead of rasping each individual spindle i clamped them together and to the bench and worked them all flush with each other using a rasp and sander. It did a great job and only took around 15 mins. Definitely saved time and ensured they are all the exact same profile. Marked the front of all the spindles with the template. Fresh off the bandsaw At this point i just kinda lost focus. Ive worked alot this week. Full time job, four kids and lots of shop hours. I just needed the evening to relax. I worked for 5 hours today which brings the total to 34 hours. Brian Noel
I scanned back over the project briefly, I didn't see a link to the video you are mentioning. Great work on the chair.
Coop
Shane, don't let them Jack with you on the accent. Besides, I hear that goes away and becomes soft and subtle after you get clipped?.In all seriousness, the chair looks great. I think this project takes you to the next level. You and Kev Rock (no pun intended)!
