Figured firewood

Recommended Posts

I've "saved" a few pieces from the fireplace as well.  Only a cpl have really yielded anything interesting, albeit in small pieces.

I saved this one just the other day - haven't milled it up though.

I steal wood from the firewood pile all the time.  The back of the essential oil cabinet (see my videos titles "A board of Cherry") came from the fire wood pile, as did the round mallet I always used.  I have made stuff from walnut too.  I have a kerfing plane I started over a year ago, that is waiting for me to get back to, that is walnut and I found a piece of spalted maple that will be part of it.

The spalted maple scoop and cutter that I did for Mel came from fire wood.  Use what you can from it and enjoy it.

I agree, take what you can and have fun. It's hard to find an 8' log with spalding evenly the whole way through, but I've found lots in my burn pile.
