Cliff, as a tip, though you might already do this, after you brand your stuff, sand with some 180 or 220, it will remove the surrounding scorching and give you crisp detail.

Didn't know, only used it once or twice I think. Thanks for the tip!

That is a very cool idea.  It has class.

If you want to keep those medallions to a reasonable size, a laser engraver might work better than a cnc router. But the routed version may have more of a "woodworker" appearance.

*Edit* I wonder if it would be too cheesy to engrave your initials on an appropriately-dated coin, and inlay that?

Looks good Jordan !

I have seen a new coin glued into a forstner drilled recess to show the year and then a signature or brand below that.

I made a recipe holder for my DIL, Penny, for her bd. In the top, I used a forstner bit to recess two pennies, one for the year she was born and one for the year I made it for her.

Up here we don't have pennies & Lee Valley sold out of the nickel & dime sized forstner bits. If I put a loonie or a toonie in there, people are just gonna dig them out & spend them.

Put a US penny in anyway - you'll seem like an international man of mystery then....

Ya, that's it. And the US is NEVER going to get rid of their pennies.
