Mpride1911
A coworker used to make guitars and had small veneers of cocobolo and bloodwood that he wanted made into a large bodied pen. So I cut the wood into strips and laminated then into two 3/4" blanks with the help of one strip of purple heart that I had. Between drilling and turning the blanks blew up on me 3 or 4 times, but eventually I got them together, and finished. Unfortunately the CA at the ends of the blanks was badly chipped, so I remounted them, and sanded completely back to bare wood. I re applied 6 coats of medium CA and sanded and polished up again. I still have blemishes at the ends. Does anyone have either this problem, or a solution? I sanded with 240, 320, 400, wet sanded 800, 1000, 2000. Then buffed with rubbing and polishing compound. I use non stick bushings, and tried cleaning the CA from the ends of the blanks before sanding. I've tried razors, chisels, 400 and 800 grits, but still this problem persists with some blanks. I attached pictures, the one closest is of the blemishes, but it may be hard to see.
