Grandfather Clock

That really did turn out great!  For a "first furniture" build, it's very impressive!  Wish my first turned out that nice!

beautiful work Willy, what movement did you use? I've been wanting to build one for a while but the price of a movement always scares me back to reality, like $600.00 for a 7 day movement.

I would love to make one of those but don't have a place to put it.  That will be a family heirloom.  Don't forget to sign and date ti somewhere (not across the face).  I like it.

Beautiful Work !! You'll get a sense of pride every time you walk into the room. Way better than buying the clock. Watch out, there will probably be a Bunny Rabbit, a Mister Moose and an older gentleman wearing Green Jeans showing up.:P

Thank you all for the wonderful comments.  The family is fighting over who will get the clock when the time comes.  They better start being really nice to me.

@ treeslayer   the movement is item #13044 on the Klockit site.  It's a cable driven unit.  The pendulum is #20024 and the weight shells are #13094 and the dial face is #26930.  I luckily had a 15% coupon which really helped with the price.  Ended up around $620.

Willy that clock looks great! i like the subtle details. Don't sweat the purchased trim on the top, I'd have never known for starters. Secondly it's probably better that way trim is a PITA in my opinion. Did you make the bottom yourself?

Yes I made the bottom cove myself on the table saw.  Found a calculator on the web and did a bunch of checking.  Was nervous about that one since I had only one piece of wood to use.

Wonderful. Reminds me of a childhood song:

My grandfather's clock was too large for the shelf,
So it stood ninety years on the floor;
It was taller by half than the old man himself,
Though it weighed not a pennyweight more.
It was bought on the morn of the day that he was born,
And was always his treasure and pride;
But it stopped short — never to go again —
When the old man died.

Ninety years without slumbering
(tick, tock, tick, tock),
His life's seconds numbering,
(tick, tock, tick, tock),
It stopped short — never to go again —
When the old man died.

Do you ever realize how morbid some of our nursery rhymes were?
