Tom Cancelleri
If I were to make a cutting board that had some inlay details requiring color, I've heard of people using food grade epoxy mixed with food coloring to make some inlays. Has anyone done this, or know of a good food safe epoxy
mds2
I would think almost all epoxy would be food safe after it cures. Every restaurant table around here has a 1/4" layer of epoxy on top.

Chet
Tom maybe you should contact West Systems. I know there stuff is used for drinkable water tank repair and also bar tops. Seems you would have a reasonable chance that it would work for what you need.
Barron
Checking with West Systems is a good idea. I wouldn't worry much about the epoxy not being food safe, but that the inlays would quickly look dull from use. Epoxy seems softer than most woods. Not an issue for most uses, but I'd worry about using it in a cutting board surface.
Immortan D
Only food safe epoxy I know about is the white epoxy paint used to seal potable water tanks. Obviously not something you can use. On the other hand transparent epoxy is often used to repair granite counter tops, I don't know exactly what brand, but it should fulfill your purpose. galturner
When one uses a knife on the epoxy, it will breakdown & become small pieces that will get in the food..if you wish to eat it...knife cuts will look bad down the road.. Tom Cancelleri
Good point about the knife marks. I'm probably better off doing pyrography for the fine black details Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
