Curtis
What are some other (if any) options you guys have used for dying epoxy for filling knot holes etc? Maybe something I could get at the art supply store or Michaels type place. They were out of the brand specific dye at woodcraft and was hoping to do this tonight or tomorrow morning. . Thx
Barron
India ink works well, just don't over do it, as noted above, just a few drops. I've used powdered paint dye too, with good results. A craft store should have it. I tried dark blue trying for a little color, but it ended up mostly black.
MisterDrow
I've used this stuff and it works well. Like the india ink, just 1-2 drops is usually plenty. http://www.woodcraft.com/product/832408/mixol-tint-dark-brown-23-20-ml.aspx
Curtis
Awesome. And I'm off to Dick Blick for some India ink. Thanks! And they had that mixol there at Woodcraft and I asked the guy about it and he said "not for epoxy" :/. I should have just googled it . Pretty easy to control the shading.
TerryMcK
I use Transtint dye. It works great with epoxy like West Systems. You only need a tiny drop though in a regular 5:1 pump full. Amazon sell it.
JosephThomas
Transtint dye (many color options): https://www.amazon.com/TransTint-BCAC29634-Dyes-Dark-Walnut/dp/B001DSZ6D4 47 minutes ago, TerryMcK said: I use Transtint dye. wtnhighlander
Cheap eye shadow. Many types of cosmetics are simply ground-up mineral pigments, and offer a wide assortment of colors, if you want a solid colored epoxy blend, rather than translucent. Poor man's alternative to 'Inlace' for colored inlay work.
Curtis
Filled all my holes, and my bottle of india ink was 2$. A little cheaper than the 12.99 System 3! Dye.
Dust
This is an old thread but, I was just at Woodcraft and the guy specifically told me Mixol works f9r resin casting and they "haven't found anything it doesn't work on."
